Toleware trays became popular decorative and functional items in American and European homes during the 18th and 19th centuries, with a significant revival in the mid-20th century. This style of hand-painted metal tray, featuring romantic floral motifs on a dark background, was particularly fashionable during the 1940s-1960s as part of the Colonial Revival and Early American decorating trends.
