This style of table lamp emerged in the mid-20th century when decorative porcelain vases were commonly converted into electric lamps for home use. The red glazed porcelain base with ornate brass mounting reflects the popular taste for traditional European decorative arts during the 1940s through 1960s, when quality materials and craftsmanship were highly valued in home furnishings.
